Job Description

Cooligy is looking for an experienced, hands-on mechanical engineer to support the development and production of our unique fluid-based cooling solutions. The ideal candidate will have a broad mechanical background with significant experience in mechanical design as well as metal forming and joining process engineering.  Professional experience in the areas of new product development and introduction, process development and implementation, design of experiments and equipment specification is desired. The candidate will have the opportunity to lead cross-functional teams throughout the product development cycle to ensure that we can build cost effective, high performance products on time and in volume.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

Product Design and Fabrication

  • Work with materials and thermal development teams to design cooling systems to meet customer performance and reliability requirements.
  • Incorporate DFx into system and component design to enable high yielding manufacturing and assembly processes.

Process Development and Implementation

  • Work with domestic and international development partners (outsource, third party vendors) to fabricate metal components to specification. Define critical process and product parameters to ensure continued vendor quality.
  • Develop, optimize and implement manufacturing and assembly processes capable of achieving yield and throughput requirements within typical electronics industry production timeframes.
  • Investigate and specify necessary manufacturing / assembly equipment and design necessary assembly and test fixtures.

Project Management

  • Lead a cross-functional team to ensure the timely development and qualification of products by:
    • Identifying critical path requirements,
    • prioritizing deliverables,
    • defining resource requirements, and
    • providing clear, accurate and timely communication to colleagues, suppliers and customers.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or related field with minimum 5 years experience, preferably in a high-tech, high-pace product development company.   
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop products and processes for high volume production.  Must be creative and develop innovative solutions that optimize performance and manufacturability. 
  • Ability to create CAD models and generate mechanical drawings. 
  • Broad process background, including experience with metal forming (e.g. stamping, extrusion, injection molding) and joining (e.g. brazing, welding, soldering) processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard statistical methods to design experiments, analyze parametric data and establish suitable process controls to optimize process performance and yield.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 20%) and work closely with subcontractors.   
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team orientation, consistent work habits, and a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and instructions orally and through written documentation (e.g. process specifications).
  • Ability to create CAD models and generate mechanical drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks and/or other solid modeling design software.
  • Product experience: design, fabrication and testing of liquid cooling components and systems.
  • Knowledge of materials interaction and phenomena (e.g. corrosion chemistry).
  • Mandarin or Cantonese language skills.
